I have been playing pool for
all total over the last 20 years - about 5 years
I started
playing pool in clubs in my twenties. I would get bored in clubs
and playing pool was a way to pass the time. While my friends were dancing
the night away, I was playing pool. I married in my late 20s and didn't
play again until about 18 months ago (a 12 year lapse). I'm 42 now and
finally ready to jump out there and live my life.
I love most
about pool: Every game is a new challenge. It never gets
redundant. This game is a life-long study, AND it's the "safest sport in
the world". For a mom like me, that's important. I'm already getting
my sons involved in pool. I hope they develop a love for the game
too. If not a love, I know they will have a healthy respect for
it.
Did someone influence you and pool? If so, who, how and
what does it mean to you?: I had a friend that shared my interest
in pool when I was in my twenties. He used to always tell me to keep my
head down. It turned out to be very good advice and it's stuck with
me.
I want people to really know about me: At this
point in my life, I'm in a discovery phase. Going over my life, culling
out the things that are unimportant, keeping only the best. The goal is to
achieve the most enjoyable life I can create for myself and my boys. Pool
has always been recreational to me. I've been drawn to it since I was in my
twenties, but have never taken it seriously. Now I find that women
compete, and compete well in this sport. I want to see if I have what it
takes to compete. The most interesting revelation came recently at my
first appearance on the Hunter Classic Tour. The girls are so nice !!!
I've only seen men play over the years, never women. I think that women
play better. They are more methodical and put more thought into each
shot. GO GIRLS. All these years I thought I was on the wrong
planet. Now I know I just needed to change orbits.
Non-pool
related: Were it not for the support of a few friends, I never
would have stepped out there and entered a tournament. I'm so glad I did.
The warm welcome I received from the players and tournament directors took me by
complete surprise. Unbelievable how friendly everyone was. I am
still telling my friends about it. They are all saying, "I told you
so". Thanks to Don, Van, Sam and Edward. Last but not least, thanks
to my wonderful, supportive sons, Forrest (10) and Benjamin
(8).
