HUNTER CLASSICS AMATEUR WOMEN'S TOUR
First Hunter Classics Tour Stop of 2003 plays at Corner Pocket in ALB, NM.

On the weekend of Jan 18-29, 2003, twenty seven women came to compete for the first Hunter Classics stop of 2003.  Nine of them were also vying for the WPBA Qualifier.  We played at Corner Pocket in Albuquerque, NM, where they have hosted a stop the last few years - always treating the ladies to a wonderful tournament and hospitality.

The Hunter Classics ladies enjoy coming to Albuquerque every year because Wes and Cindy Hunter get to visit and set up shop.  We were able to thank Wes in person for all of his amazing support for the last ten years!

When play started on the numerous newly re-felted nine-foot tables, who would have known new faces would grace the finals.  It was a good fight - the final 6 ladies in the tournament all had paid the Qualifier fee and wanted the ever-elusive WPBA Qualifier!  In the end, it would be Terri Kelley (who recently moved to the DFW area) winning the tournament, $750 and the WPBA Qualifier.  Second place would be (all the way from Hawaii) Phoebe Choy who won $525.  And third place was local, fifteen year-old Anna Kostanian who won $330.

Phoebe's road to the finals was with wins over Lisa Marr (7-6), Julie Stephenson (7-1), Pearl Ortiz (7-1), Anna Konstanian (7-1) and then Terri Kelley (7-6) for the hot seat.

Terri's road to the finals started with a bye and then with wins over Shanna Lewis (7-2), Melinda Bailey (7-2), and Leslie Anne Rogers (7-4) before losing to Phoebe (6-7).  Then Terri defeated Anna Konstanian (7-6) and Phoebe Choy two sets (7-5, 7-4) to win the tournament and the WPBA Qualifier.  Fourth place went to 2002 Tour Champions Leslie Anne Rogers, winning $210.

Terri Kelley (1st place), Phoebe Choy (2nd place) and local Anna Kostanian (3rd place)

Right before the finals, the beautiful Hunter Classics Custom Cue was raffled off and Brian Mileshosky won the cue!  Although everyone wanted to win the cue, we will have 7 more chances for another Hunter Classics cue throughout the year!

On Sunday, the second chance tournament was won by Board Member Stephanie Croft - her first time winning the second chance tournament.  She also won $95.  Local Shanna Lewis placed second and won $65.

A BIG thank you goes to Wes Hunter who keeps allowing the women to reach for the pool goals by supporting the Hunter Classics Tour, which happens to be the longest running, largest women's regional tour in America! Thank you, Wes!

Visit and play at our next stop in Austin, TX Feb 22-23.
