HUNTER CLASSICS AMATEUR WOMEN'S TOUR
Jun 6 - 7, 1998
Austin, TX
The Warehouse

The Fourth Stop on the Hunter Tour had a great turnout, once again!  58 women met at 'The Warehouse Saloon & Billiards' in Austin, Texas, to play some pool.

And play some pool they did!  By noon Sunday, Susan Dasher was running three tournaments at one time for the Hunter Tour ladies.  And, by 5pm Lucille Donahue had won the second chance tournament, Melanie Koger had won the Last Chance Winner Take All Tournament (nicknamed The Angry Women's Tournament) and Dora Valdez and Heather Pulford were fighting to see who would get to play Kristi Carter for 1st and 2nd in the main event!.

Kristi Carter, (fresh after her 1st place win in the master's women division at the BCA 8-Ball Nationals and 17th-24th finish at the WPBA Twin Cities Classics in Red Wing, MN ) sailed through the winner's bracket beating Heather Pulford for the hot-seat spot.  Then, Karen Boutin, Jana Carroll, Dora Valdez (fresh off her own 17th-24th place finish at the WPBA Twin Cities Classics), Holly Sholes and Heather Pulford were the player's left to see who would get to earn the qualifying spot for the Gentleman Jack WPBA stop in Texas in 1999.

While Holly Sholes lost her first match, she still got fourth place in the tournament!   Heather Pulford defeated Dora Valdez, who finished third by playing great pool this weekend.  (Not only did Heather get another chance at Kristi, she also joined Kristi in earning a qualifying spot at the Gentleman Jack WPBA event!)  Kristi had been playing very well all weekend, not giving her opponents many chances, and she didn't let things change this time, either.  Heather held her own, but Kristi came ahead, winning the set 11-5.  Congratulations to all!!

Well, the fourth stop was another upset, so to speak.  Again, the losers bracket was no where you wanted to be in this tournament!  Kathy Cobb put Jeri Engh in the loser's bracket, Sharon Townsend put Melanie Koger in the loser's bracket, Lucille Donahue (fresh off of her own 4th place finish in the Seniors Women's division at the 8-Ball BCA Nationals) put Holly Sholes in the loser's bracket and Deanna Kniola put June Walter in the loser's bracket - all within the first two rounds!!

And, fresh, eager, (and some new) faces were still in the winner's bracket on Sunday.  Kathy Cobb, Melinda Bailey and Pamela Cipolla received points for the fist time!  Congratulations!  Also, Dora Valdez and Heather Pulford are now "up there" in the points and are now in direct competition for the title of "Hunter Tour  Champion of 1998."

Our special thanks to Wes Hunter who donated another one of his beautiful custom made cue.   A big Texas-sized thank you goes out to The Warehouse for allowing us to play in their establishment. They were very friendly, and very helpful, and put up with alot of women for the whole weekend.   Also on hand was Randy Goettlicher and Chuck representing Gentleman Jack’s who put in an extra $150 to the second chance tournament!

The second chance tournament had 22 women.  June Walter and Gail Roles played for the winners bracket while Lucille Donahue was racking up wins on the losers side, with Amanda Lampert getting fourth place.  (Check out the chart!)  Eventually, Lucille met up with June Walter to see who would win it: first or second.  Lucille took the lead and stayed with it and eventually won her first Second Chance Tournament!!  Congratulations Lucille!!

The Last chance winner take all tournament (also known as the Angry Women’s Tournament ) was a huge success with 16 women (check out the chart!) fighting for the winner-take-all cash amount of $130.  Melanie Koger eventually won her money with a full, exhausting weekend of tournament play. Congratulations Melanie!!
