What a way to end the year!!  59 women came to compete at the final stop of the Hunter Classics 2002 Season in Alvin, TX November 10-11 making it our biggest turnout of the year!  Thanks to the continuing support of Wes Hunter, the Hunter Classics Tour remains the largest, longest running Regional Women's Tour!

This is the 6th year in a row Big Daddy's has hosted the season finale of the Hunter Classics Tour.  Many thanks to our wonderful hosts, Vickie and Ed McKillop.  Also, a big thank you to Mike Roles for being our referee and a great Tournament Director for us.  And thank you to Wes Hunter who keeps this tour famous by donating his beautiful Hunter Classics Custom Cues for each stop.  Our supportive Internet sponsor, AZBilliards.com, again placed our brackets online during the tournament.

Although the turnout was wonderful, there was some sad news to report.  Local player and Hunter tour member Sybil Wingard lost her 17 year-old son, Chris, in an automobile accident the night before the tournament.  The ladies and Big Daddy's donated money for flowers and they also raised money for the family by having mini tournaments all day Sunday.  Leslie Anne Rogers also donated half her massage profits to the family.

Many awards were given out and several history making events occurred, so let's get started!

Leslie Anne Rogers earned the most points this year (second year in a row) on the Hunter Tour and is the 2002 Hunter Tour Champion.  Orietta Strickland placed second on Point Standings and is the runner-up.  Both ladies get invites to the WPBA Nationals for placing so high on the tour.  Congratulations, ladies and good luck!

 The Tour Championship not only crowns the Tour Champion, it also crowns the Most Improved Player and Perfect Attendance.  Audra Carter from San Antonio won the Most Improved Player award, which comes with all of her entries for next year paid!  Earlier in the year, she had her highest finishes ever on the Hunter Tour by placing 5th/6th twice, but she bested that at this tournament by placing 4th!  Alvin, TX proved that Audra deserved the title.  Congratulations, Audra.  Seven ladies had 'perfect attendance' and each will get one free entry in 2003. There was also a drawing for these ladies to see who would win the 'perfect attendance' $200 and it was Leslie Anne Rogers.

Several records happened over the Championship Stop weekend.  First, Lisa Marr is now the first player to win 3 consecutive stops in a row.  Second, Leslie Anne Rogers is the first player to win the Hunter Tour Champion title more than once.  And Third - The Hunter Classics Tour is now Ten Years Old!  (for more history, click here) 

Lisa Marr, from Sherwood, AR, won the last two Hunter Classics stops by coming through the one-loss side and defeating her opponents in the finals twice in the true double elimination format.  Well, this stop she would have none of one-loss side. Instead - she plowed through the field undefeated, winning her third Hunter Classics Stop in a row, the WPBA Qualifier and $750.  Deanna Henson, recently married from the Austin area, placed 2nd and won $585, Leslie Anne Rogers, Tour Champion, placed 3rd and won $430, and 2002 Most Improved Player Audra Carter came in 4th winning $280.

Deanna's road to the finals started with a win over Board Member Julie Stephenson (7-0) and the lost her next match to Lisa Marr (4-7).  Deanna then started her trek on the one-loss side with wins over Melissa Norton (7-1), Terri Kelly (7-4), Kim Pierce (7-3), Melinda Bailey (7-2), Julia Gabriel (7-3), Nicole Bacon (7-0), Susan Bishop (7-5), Audra Carter (7-0), and Leslie Anne Rogers (7-4) before meeting up with Lisa in the finals.

Lisa Marr's road to the finals was paved with wins over Rebecca Goodnight (7-1), Deanna Henson (7-4), Michelle Cortez (7-4), Tracie Boles (7-2), Audra Carter (7-0), and Leslie Anne Rogers (7-6).  Lisa then met up with Deanna again (this time in the finals) and defeated her 7-2 for the Tournament win!  One notable  person we should mention is newcomer, Tracie Boles from Fort Worth, who has only played two other events and never won a match up to this point.  On Sunday she was still on the winner's side and placed 9th-12th!  Congratulations to all of the ladies and thank you for a wonderful tournament!

The Second Chance Tournament on Sunday had a great turn-out: 38 women. 12 places were paid, and 1st place went to Amanda Lampert from San Antonio who double-dipped her opponent, Heather Pulford from Austin, in the finals.

Many raffles occurred over the weekend and Kathy Arens from MO won the Anne Maye's Custom Cue, and local supporter James Burger won the Jerry Olivier Cue.  Wes Hunter, our continued, wonderful supporter donated another beautiful Hunter Classics Custom Cue, this one valued at $1,800, and newcomer from Fort Worth, Gail Stevens, won it!  Big Daddy's room owner Vickie McKillop donated wonderful gifts to the Hunter Classics women, including crystal items, a cue traveling case and gift certificates.  Thank you again to Vickie and Ed for supporting the Hunter Ladies!
