One of my earliest childhood memories is from when I was probably three or four years old.  I don't know where we were, but my dad was playing pool.  I found the cube of chalk, and what is so neat is that I can remember being fascinated by it.  To a child, a cube of chalk isn't purposeful like it is to us “pool players.”  It is a block that draws.  And that curious little dent in the chalk, you just can't resist putting your finger into it and feeling the curve of it.

When I was about eight or nine, a man lived on my street who had a pool table in his garage.  I always wanted to play on it, but he would never let me.  He always said, “When you're thirteen, you can play.”  I went back when I was ten, eleven and twelve; every year he would say the same thing.  Finally, the day I turned thirteen I went down there.  I think we maybe played three games, and I doubt I won any of them.  After that I started playing at a game room, and never went back to his house.  I give this man a lot of credit for my ambition in the pool world.  One of the things I always say you need to be a great pool player is drive.  You have to really want to, or you won't succeed.  And that is what that neighbor gave me: drive to play pool.

I bought my first cue when I was fourteen, at Champs sports in the mall, for forty dollars.  I played at that game room for a year or so, then I started trying out tournaments.  My biggest problem, until I turned 18, was finding a place where I could play.  Some bars would let me in with my promise that “All I want to do is play pool!”  Most of the time they would just mark my hand with really big X's.  But I got to play.  I got lucky and went to Vegas to play scotch doubles, not even knowing what BCA was.  After that I started playing on the “big tables,” and that's when my knowledge and understanding of the game started to come.

The Hunter Tour has really changed how I feel about competition in pool.  I've met so many wonderful women who love this game as much as I do.  I am so grateful to the ladies who made this tour what it is.  Your time and dedication is noticed and greatly appreciated.
